The end of a perfect day

I am a person who really values alone time. So my day on my bike was precious. When I finally stopped for a beer I got a text from Jimmie he was meeting me. He showed up on a rented scooter and we sat on the canal drinking rose wine from France. The weather was perfect ,warm rays of sun gently embraced us and a cool breeze blew from the water to create the absolute perfect the tempature. We watched the boats go by filled with people basking up the sun on this glorious day. It was just perfect. The city was called Leiden. It's the birthplace of Rembrandt.I personally had never heard of it, but now it may be one of my very favorite places. We stumbled upon a stage built on the water and listened to a band play some classic Dutch music. The whole day was so incredible.
When we got back to the camp sight we met up with the kids to join them on the waterslides. This definitely would not be my first choice of what to do in Europe but when your baby boys ask you to do something with them, and you go to kiss them ,and whiskers bite you back you sure as heck better do it because those whiskers are a symbol you are running out of
opportunities. I think back when I was young and " old people" griped about raising teenagers. I was like oh my god what's the big deal? Now I am that old lady raising teenagers and I know what they were talking about. Sometimes I think they hate me. I think how can this be? I have loved you from the moment of your conception and now you are rejecting me! Then I try to remind myself I also was once like them and I came around. This is just a bump in the road of raising young men.so needless to say I found myself on waterslides in holland.
The interesting part came when it was close to closing time. First after being chilled you want to get in the hot public shower. Usually in America there is separation for men and women but not here. I found it mildly awkward showering with all these strangers men included. ( of course everyone had swimsuits) but then you go to where the lockers are. There are rows of lockers and in between changing rooms. The changing rooms have doors that open on both sides.now keep in mind this is a unisex locker/ changing room. I want to get out of my wet suit and put my sweats on so I don't freeze on the walk home. By this time there is 500 people in this locker room,it's about 500 degrees and completely chaotic and closterphobic. I go in the first room and try to close the door. No locks, and the doors on both sides just swing open. I try atleast 6 more rooms, squeezing myself around big men, women and kids. They are all the same. My need for modesty did not outweigh my need for being warm. How was I going to remove my wet swim suit and put on clothes while holding not one but two doors shut? I don't know but I was going to try. My eyes were focused on all the man feet outside my little room. If that door swings open I'm going to die of embarrassment.I decide to use my head on one door and a foot on the other. So with my head holding the door I bounce on one foot trying to remove my suit. Now at this point I realize if the door swings the view is going to be much much worse than if I just stripped down standing up. Imagine I am buck naked ,one leg completely in the air, my head bent over and my one good leg bouncing around like it was on a pogo stick. This is not a pretty mental image people.By this time I'm laughing out loud at myself. It was an impossible situation. No matter how hard I tried I could not keep atleast one door from opening. When I was done I just put my head down and ran out of there.

  2. Hilarious-any American would've done what you did. David and I were in an overnight eurail train with an Italian couple on their HONEYMOON! I slept in the fetus position, sucking my thumb in my "happy place."
